"I always hate this kind of scapegoating after elections. I mean, when you lose, you lost. Someone asked me the other day, ‘Why did Mitt Romney lose?’ Because he got less votes than Barack Obama. That’s why."

- NJ Gov. Chris Christie • Discussing his displeasure with the mental gymnastics that both parties frequently display, after losing an election, in an interview with Joe Scarborough on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’. Gov. Christie has become the most recent prominent Republican to publicly dismiss Mitt Romney’s theory that “gifts” won President Obama the election, though he’s far from the only one to do so. source (via shortformblog)

"Mitt Romney is a highly moral man who happens to be amoral when it comes to politics—a salesman willing to make whatever pitch will sell at that moment."

"Keep in mind that military spending has gone up every year I’ve been in office. We spend more than the next ten countries combined… what you can’t do is spend 2 trillion dollars in additional spending the military isn’t asking for, 5 trillion in tax cuts… and then somehow you’re going to cut the deficit with what we have left. The math doesn’t work."

- President Obama, taking the opportunity of a question on military spending to again veer the topic towards something a little more domestic, and one of his more effective attacks on the Romney economic plan — his additional trillions proposed in expenditures, tax cuts, and pledge to cut the deficit and debt nonetheless. And Mitt dodges questions on how he’ll build jobs AGAIN….

“How are you going to build jobs?”

“I’m outraged at the state of the economy and I’m going to build jobs by building jobs. Thank you.”

"She works for me. I’m the president. And I’m always responsible."

- President Obama, taking responsibility for attacks in Benghazi that killed US Ambassador Chris Stevens. Mitt Romney attacked him quite staunchly over the incident, and the lack of additional requested security at the embassy. Over the past couple days, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had accepted responsibility for it, but tonight Obama said the buck stopped at him. Romney’s reaction immediately afterwards seemed unsteady – it seems plausible that he didn’t expect this answer, and it threw him pretty badly off his planned course. (via shortformblog)

"…I don’t think that weapons made for battle in military theaters should be on our streets."

- President Obama, answering an unexpected but very welcome question on gun control. Mitt Romney responded that he didn’t favor new laws regarding guns, but rather wanted to see a restoration of the family unit and social values, then pivoting to criticism of the ATF’s Fast and Furious operation. Liberals Are Cool: The Real Reason Mitt Romney Is Losing and Will Lose

“But there’s one overriding reason that Romney’s candidacy was doomed: he is a completely unlikeable prick. And, unlike the fake self-aware Romney above, he doesn’t give a shit that he’s an unlikeable prick. In the world he existed in before running for president, one can be admired for dealing…

"He has released only one year - to the McCain campaign he released 23 years. And he’s telling the American people ‘I’m not going to give you what I’ve given John McCain’s people in 2008.’ And when he gave them 23 years, John McCain’s people looked at it and said ‘let’s go with Sarah Palin.’"

"I’m not gonna do it and I’m not going to be asked and it’s not going to happen."

- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush • Saying that it’s unlikely that he’ll be the vice presidential pick in somewhat firmer terms than Mike Huckabee. Bush, who has emerged as a voice who isn’t afraid to disagree with his own party at times, admits that if we were to do it, “this was probably my time,” but that “I’m not sure I would have been successful as a candidate either.” The odds, either way, are looking good for a VP candidate out of Florida — CPAC voters in Chicago over the weekend heavily favored current Sen. Marco Rubio as their desired running mate for Mitt Romney. (via shortformblog)
